Vigil
Vigil is a series of figurative paintings in which I explore the tension between the figure and it’s environment. The ongoing series features women who are caretakers in motherhood and on the farm. The compositions are designed to create create both an opposition and a harmony. I’m looking to find a strong and resilient yet delicate and intimate timeless grace. Open, Closed and Away
I am interested, above all, in people and in the manners in which we communicate, express, and develop meaning. As an artist I find inspiration in gesture and in the subtle variations of facial expressions. These works are life-sized, detailed paintings on aluminum that explore how these subtle changes of gesture, expression, and context serve to develop mood and narrative. I am deeply interested in understanding the manners by which we connect to other people through gaze and expression.
“Open, Away, and Closed”, consists of paintings of people recumbent in three different types of environments: outdoors, within nature; in interior, man-made spaces; in indeterminate spaces consisting of solid color.

Transfiguration
This series of intimate paintings is an investigation in subtle narritive. Each paitning is interactive, with a knob at the bottom of the paitning allowing the viewer to turn the paitning and see another image painted on the reverse. My subjects range from family and friends as well as images from found images from silent films, which are a passion of mine.
If one framed image is shown, wait and it will turn and show you how it changes as it (or a portion of it) rotates. If two framed images are shown, you’re seeing both sides of the same artwork.
