“Every person and pet carries a story of love, companionship, and unforgettable personality. I paint portraits by hand in oil on aluminum or copper, focusing not just on likeness, but on presence.”
Whether you’re celebrating a joyful companion or honoring a memory you hold dear, a custom portrait becomes a timeless keepsake to treasure.
How It Works: From Photo to Painting
High-quality reference photos are key to capturing a detailed and expressive likeness. Rebecca paints portraits from one or more photographs, often combining elements from multiple images to create the most meaningful composition. When gathering photos, send full-size files taken in natural light whenever possible, and be sure to include close-up shots. If you’re unsure which photos to use, don’t worry. Rebecca will guide you through the process and help select the best images for your portrait.

Photos for Pet Portraits
Because pets can be camera-shy around strangers, clients are usually asked to take their own reference photos. Share your favorite shots (you can’t send too many!), and Rebecca will help you choose the best one or offer tips on how to take a great portrait photo. Seattle-area clients may also arrange an in-person session.

Photos for Portraits of People
For portraits of people, Rebecca typically works from your personal photographs. These can be especially meaningful, capturing the subject as you know and love them. If you’re commissioning a posthumous portrait or live outside the Seattle area, photos you already have are usually more than sufficient. On some occasions, Rebecca may meet in person to take reference photos and make quick sketches, especially for larger works. Most reference sessions, when needed, take 1–2 hours.

Interested in a Still Life Commission?
While most of Rebecca’s commissions are portraits, she occasionally creates still life paintings by request—often for collectors who want a companion piece or missed out on a sold work. Since still life shows often sell out quickly, commissions are a great way to acquire a painting in this style. Feel free to get in touch to discuss ideas.
